NASSA Sale Site Overview
Here are brief descriptions of the main pages of the site:
- Sheep Listings (Sheep For Sale) - This is the page that
shows you the sheep currently listed for sale. By default, you will see all of the sheep
listed, but only a page (of 6) at a time. You can use the Previous/Next controls to
move between pages (if there is more than one page.) Also, you can narrow your
search using the search controls (for example, look at only the Rams for
sale.) From this page, you can jump to information about the seller by
clicking the farm name. Another feature you will want to be sure to
check out is the pedigree. You can jump to the pedigree for any sheep on
the for sale page by clicking its Reg Number. Also, you can click the
sheep's name to jump to a detailed information page for that sheep. Another feature
on this page is the "Customize Table" feature. Click the link below the lower right corner
of the list of sheep for sale to use this feature. It allows you to select which columns
you want to display and how many rows you want per page. Feel free to experiment with this
feature. Note that the "Customize Table" feature uses a cookie on your system to store
your custom choices, so this feature won't work if you have cookies disabled.
- Farm Listings - This page shows a list of
Sale Site members (Shetland sheep breeders.) Members may have sheep and/or fiber listed for
sale. The page works similarly to the Sheep For Sale page with the paging and search controls.
From this page, you can jump to the member's detailed Farm Information page by clicking the farm
- Pedigree - As mentioned above, this page shows a pedigree for the
selected sheep. It is 4 generations deep. A very powerful feature of the
pedigree page is that you can click on any underlined registration number (link) on
the pedigree to see a pedigree for that sheep. This way, you can work
your way "up" the pedigree tree all the way back to the original Shetlands
imported to Canada (or a Dailey/Flett Ram/Ewe, if you run into one of the sheep
whose parents are not known!) Use your browser back button to retrace if
needed. Pedigree information comes from the NASSA online database, which is a copy
of the NASSA registry database. The online database is updated approximately quarterly,
so recently registered sheep may not be in it yet.
- Progeny - At the top of the Pedigree will be a link to a Progeny
page, if any progeny of the sheep are found in the database. The Progeny page shows
a list of all know progeny and the other parent of each. Like the Pedigree, each
registration number in the list is a link to a Pedigree for that sheep. Progeny information
is taken from the NASSA online database.
- Farm Information - As mentioned above, this page shows some details
about the selected farm (member/seller). This page shows:
contact information, description of the farm, pictures, information on sheep and
fiber that is for sale (with links to any Sheep or Fiber Listings), and an optional
section on services offered such as breeding, shearing, fiber processing, etc.
- Fiber Listings (Fiber For Sale) - This page is similar
to the Sheep Listings page, but instead shows the Fiber Listings. You
can click on the farm name to jump to the Farm Info page or click on the fiber
listing name to jump to a detailed information page for that particular fiber.
- Sheep Information and Fiber Information - As mentioned above, these
are detailed information pages for specific Sheep or Fiber listings. Links to the Farm
Info page as well as the farm's other listings are provided.
